In light of Anthem’s recent cyber-breach, we would like to take this opportunity to kindly remind everyone of a few cyber security tips. Please feel free to share the below with your employees.
- Proceed cautiously when receiving emails or phone calls requesting personal or credit card information.
- Obtain an annual free credit report from a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) authorized site.
- Consider requesting a fraud alert on your credit report. These alerts typically last 90 days and are renewable. (http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0275-place-fraud-alert)
- Check your financial accounts regularly.
- Change your passwords periodically.
- Do not use the same password for every account.
- If you believe you have been the victim of identity theft, file a report with the local police and FTC.
Any current or former members of Anthem should be aware that your personal information is at risk due to the breach of the Anthem’s IT system. Starting Friday, February 13, 2015, all current and former members are able to visit www.anthemfacts.com to learn how to enroll in credit monitoring and identity protection. Additionally, Anthem will be reaching out directly to all impacted members via U.S. Postal Service or email.
