Beginning in early 2016, many employers received letters from the IRS-SSA-CMS Data Match program. These letters directed employers to report information on the IRS/SSA/CMS Data Match Secure Web Site. To avoid penalties and meet the tight deadlines associated with these requests, employers should take action immediately.
While completion of the online questionnaire can be time consuming and detailed, it is likely only stage one of CMS’s coordination of benefits program (designed to recover funds spent inaccurately according to primary/secondary payer rules). Once an employer completes the online questionnaire, it is possible that CMS will eventually reach out with a request for additional information.
