On June 26, 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court issued its much-anticipated decision on same-sex marriage. Effective immediately, same-sex couples have the right to be married in their own state and have their marriage recognized as valid in every other state.

Since same-sex marriage was already legal in 37 states, including New York and New Jersey, most employers will have little to no action in order to ensure all married couples receive the same federal and state benefits, such as: FMLA, spousal coverage, pre-tax premium payments, plan beneficiary rights, etc.
