The Department of Labor recently issued a Final Rule for FMLA regulations that expands military leave effective March 8, 2013.
Under current FMLA regulations, eligible employees can take FMLA leave to care for active service members who experienced an illness or injury as a result of Active Duty. The final rule extends this provision to include “covered Veterans” and provides a definition of “serious injury or illness” that is distinct from the FMLA definition of “serious health condition”.
