Effective with the first plan year on or after January 1, 2016 the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires all employers with less than 100 full time and full time equivalent employees to be community rated for health insurance. Employers with 2-50 employees are already community rated; however, this may have a significant impact on employers with 51-99 employees. For example:

  • Rates may increase significantly
  • Limited plan designs and flexibility
  • Stop-loss coverage becomes unavailable for those currently self-insured
